The Thin Line

In life, there lies a subtle, thin line—

A fragile thread we often cannot define.

A line between life and death,

Between the rule of law and authoritarian breath.

Between protest and reckless strife,

Between truth and the counterfeit of life.

Between trust and suspicion’s seed,

Between faith and a wavering creed.

Between perception and reality’s face,

Between youth and old age’s embrace.

Between anger’s spark and hatred’s fire,

The line grows faint, yet rises higher.

And so the list goes on and on…

A border blurred, a fragile dawn.

The trouble with the thin, frail line

Is how it fails to give us sign—

Too often crossed without our sight,

Unaware we’ve stepped from wrong to right.

So Lord, grant us the grace to find,

And honor well this subtle line.

Very profound words. I believe it is between that thin line we find what our character is made of, who the Christ is in our life and the impact that thin line makes in our life when we cross it one way or the other. I liken this line to the thin line that lies between the birthdate and death date on a tombstone. This line is rarely emphasized, but that line in between our birthdate and death date is where our lives were lived.
